Snow…check. Sun… check. I knew that I was going to really enjoy this hike before I had even got there. The northern countryside, hills covered in snow just looked magical.
The Route
One thing I have noticed on a lot of my hikes recently is that I seem to be going in the opposite direction to everyone else. This one was no different and it might not have been the best of choices, it meant I was taking on the steeper paths down hill which in snowy conditions is not a great idea. I could tell by the faces of those I passed on the steps from the Pendle Hill summit that they also maybe found it a little strange.

It was a pretty steady climb up, with the sun shining brightly and the snow making the landscape just look spectacular, the path is a little thin in places, so passing can be a little difficult but it was easy to follow and the last little stretch was all slabbed. It could even be seen with a sprinkling of snow on top.

Pendle Hill Summit
The views from this trig point were just amazing, seeing the snow covered rolling hills for miles was majestical.
My usual nice early start meant that it was still pretty quite, so I could get a chance to take in some views with a brew in peace.

No witches
Thanks to a single set of foot prints in the snow, the paths were pretty easy to follow. I do think that this might change a little when it is just wet and muddy. There are also some deep pools of water around so take extra care if you’re looking at a similar return route.

Gear
This is one of my favourite tops. I am a big fan of layering when out on a hike, this Rab Midlayer works amazingly well as a top layer. It was a pretty cold day and it kept me warm throughout, I highly recommend.
