A wet day in Brig o’ Turk and Glen Finglas -Scotland 24 – Day 4

It’s not the nicest of days today, the rain has been constant since I woke. It hasn’t been heavy but that doesn’t matter when it doesn’t stop.

So I’ve headed into Brig o Turk, I was hoping to get a pint in at the Byre inn. It doesn’t open on Mondays though so I’ll have to repay the owner a pint the next time I’m up. I’m still super thankful of the beer here gave me last year when he also wasn’t open, after I had taken on Ben Ledi along with an extra few miles thanks to some disappearing paths.

Still, the tearoom was open so I sat and dried off a little and enjoyed a lovely homemade spiced lentil soup and a coffee before heading off to the Finglas Dam.

Glen Finglas

The rapids were pretty awesome and I’ll need to look a little more into Ruskin. A famous painting of him was created here.

A damp camp

Then it was back to camp, finger crossed that the rain would be subdued come the evening. And it did, by seven I was able to make an attempt at getting a fire going. Unfortunately although it had been in my tent, after a few hours the wood had gotten pretty damp, it proved difficult but I did eventually get a good burn going. So I was able to warm my tent up with a bit of a Smokey after taste.

My last night and I had the campsite entirely to myself so I did go off and explore where some of the other pitches were. A couple were hidden deep into the forests. These were ones that used chains though. I don’t know how well any of my tents would hold up to that. Also these pitches had no fire pits, understandable since they were surrounded by forests. Still enough reason for me to know that if I’m staying here pitch 4 is going to be my go to!!
