A 25 mile day with a trek to Aviemore and Loch Morlich sunset circular – Scotland 24 – Day 7

A dull cloudy start, but it has that sort of foggy mist that suggest a beautiful day is ahead. I was not wrong. Although mountain forecast did predict some strong winds on Ben Macdui so I thought it best to head off on a low level wander.

I wanted to get a few miles in though so I followed old loggers way from the entrance of the campsite through the forests and into Aviemore.

The sun was shining pretty strong luckily a lot of the six and a half mile path was shaded by the trees. I will say I think the people writing distance markers should check path length rather than as the crow flies. Five miles as the sign suggest is a mile and a half short of the actual distance.

The funniest for me though is the sign that said 4 miles to Glen more and then a mile later a second sign that said, yep four miles to Glen More!

Still I enjoyed the walk I had a good search around the outdoor shops, which is the bulk of the village, looking for a lightweight cup which would fit inside my mess pot. The closest I found was an MsR mug but £60 is well over my budget for this item.

So I enjoyed a nice fry up, haggis include again, score. Then I headed back to Glen More, trousers rolled up into shorts as the weather was definitely on the pleasant side. With very clear skies I hoped for a good sunset over the Loch for my last night in the Cairngorms.

It seemed a little quieter around d the loch this evening although I met a couple of campers on my off track trek around the shoreline.

With a hot chocolate and spiced rum in my thermos cup and wrapped up from the midges I looked out for the perfect spot to capture the sunset.

I found a few but did find a really secluded spot open to the loch and perfect for some photos of the sun dropping below the horizon.

Another hot chocolate and it was to bed for me, although I did stay up a little while, tucked away inside the tent as some late arrivals set up camp next to me. It was dark and late and although I was slightly annoyed I also felt for the dad setting up camp after an obvious rather long journey with kids who were full of beans after napping in the car. Thankfully they weren’t too loud and the sound of laughter as they told bedtime stories made me smile rather than feel any annoyance.
