So what am I trying to achieve with this blog?
Well working in the creative industries I look for inspiration everywhere I go. There is nowhere better to look than the great British countryside. What better way to take it all in than hiking through our great forests and valleys.
I’ve never been one for foreign holidays. Sitting next to a pool and roasting in the sun just isn’t my type of thing. There is no reason to fly to far away locations when there is so much on my doorstep that I still need to see.
Why get out hiking now?
It’s not just my work that is creative, my hobbies follow suit. In the past few years I have turned my hand to writing. So many of the locations that I will see in the next few years are based around scenes that will appear in my novels. I see it as “method” writing trying to put myself into the position of my characters. It’s a medieval fantasy so I’m not quite going all in for that. I just hope to get a sense of what some of my characters might have experienced when traveling in the wildness.
There is also the fact that the last couple of years have lead to me permanently working from home. I have discovered just how good it is to get out into nature, the fresh air, the wildlife. This all works wonders to lift my spirit. I hope that I can share in my adventures and encourages others to do the same.
What am I going to include on andhiking.co.uk?
So this blog is going to include information on my hiking routes. There will be links to many of the trails I follow on my AllTrails account. I’ll also give some good tips on where to park for access. I’ll include some recipes and ideas for great snacks to keep you going on your way. Along with that I’ll let you know what equipment I use to help me get there.
I am not claiming to be an expert in adventuring., that needs to be left to the SAS or Bear Grylls. I am just beginning on the journey into the wild but I will give any advice that I think others might find useful. If you too want want to get out and about I would love to see the routes you travel and the photo’s you take.
